The term of superpower defines a state with great economic and politic power that could influence events following its own interests. The concept of superpower was used for the first time in 20th century after the World War II. At that time United States, the British Empire and the Soviet Union were considered the superpowers. If we take a look back in history we can easily conclude that other states could fit the term. These extinct superpowers are Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, the Persian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Roman Empire, the Mongol Empire, Portuguese Empire and the Spanish Empire. (more…)

The perfect balance between politics and economy is difficult to reach and even more difficult to maintain. The economic evolution depends mainly of the political decisions made by governments and the thin line between the economy and the politics has never been as untouchable as it is in the 21th century.

The history shows us how the political decisions become more important, influencing the economy and the society at a larger scale. Nowadays even apparently insignificant political actions influence the economy evolution and if we take into consideration the major countries, a wrong decision could affect the global economy. Ranking first as population and second as economy, China opened towards the West in the last decades. The democracy represents a political system in which all the people of the country have equal control over the national matters through referendum and elected representatives. The history of democracy starts in ancient Greece where Athenian citizens had the right to vote the laws of state in the Assembly.

The democracy has come a long way since that ancient times and now most countries are democratic. Now the most important features of democracy include civil liberties, politic rights, freedom of press and the low level of corruption. The North Atlantic Treaty signed on 4 April 1949 created the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) also called the Atlantic Alliance. Currently, the Alliance consists in 28 member states. At first the main purpose of this alliance was strictly political, but after the Korean War, in 1950s, the Atlantic Alliance was organized also as a military structure ready to protect any member state from an external military attack.
